GALERIA KATHRYN BROLIN/ Embaixadora da Leica

She earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism with a certificate in Photo-Journalism from The University of Georgia in 2009 and studied photography at Santa Reparata School of Art in Florence, Italy. 

Shortly thereafter, she began working in Atlanta’s film industry before moving permanently to Los Angeles to pursue her career. She has since founded a business, Midheaven, for which she serves as its creative director and photographer. She has gone on to shoot cover features for publications which most notably include Men’s Journal and The Rake, an dedicated to her personal projects. She became Leica Ambassador in 2022.

"The images I chose, to me, tell a deeper story than what’s there. To me, there is a difference between an image that catches your eye because it is a beautifully composed picture, and one that manages to draw you in and make you ask deeper questions about why the picture was worthy of being taken in the first place. What are the subjects doing? Why are they doing it? Where is his or her mother? Why is he or she crying? Why did the photographer choose to leave the subject out of the frame and focus on the subject’s shadow? What is the angle telling you? What is the negative space telling you? What was the photographer trying to say by using a longer shutter speed? Where in the world did this happen and is it still occurring? All of these questions I found myself asking upon reviewing some of these images. Ultimately for me it is about the exploration and image causes in me that brings me back to the medium of photography again and again. I’m honored to be judging beautiful images such as these and find myself feeling inspired to go out and shoot today based on the feelings I am having upon reviewing this collection.
