Juliana Couto, Brazilian documentary photographer from Rio de Janeiro and currently based on Maine.
Ju is part of the series " Curating New Angles", where Roberta Tavares is conducting an experience based on previous exercises and narratives main points and pointers of those sustaining a visual identity by elements and moods that plays with imagination and interpretation but they are back to the questions and provocations that make these authors and storytellers unique in their purpose.
The story " A Family Tale Never Heard Before" exams the portrait of what is being shared in the documentary practice of this social system. Ju is always sharing the ludical and the dark side playing in her motherhood's tale, and being so sensitive, by doing it with such enigma as a triller and so well done as imagery. The plot proving motherhood is not black and white, but a compilation of shades of grey that also deserve investigation and celebration. You look at the characters and you are hiptnotized by the happiness of finding something more, something excitingly raw and honest. That is the way she tells her kids' stories, the way she is part of these stories, the sculpture of her mind between dreams and scape and I've never heard someone does what she does and I never witnessed a family story being told like that.
